The Red Panda Expedition – Singalila National Park

The Red Panda, Ailurus fulgens is a mammal native to Eastern Himalayas and Southwest China. It is a tree-dwelling animal and is almost a specialist feeder of Bamboo when it can't find bamboo it will also eat insects, bird eggs, flowers and fruits. Although the Red Panda is classified in a family group of its own, it is most closely related to the racoons. This rare animal has a very specialized habitat that can be defined as a moist broad-leaved temperate forest with thick bamboo undergrowth at an altitude of 2,500 meters to 4,000 meters. As a result of its specialized requirements and inability to adapt, the Red Panda is at serious threat from habitat loss, poaching and other environmental challenges. With an estimated population of less than 10,000 Red Panda's left in the wild, it is one of the rarest animals to be seen. Join Reni Pani's exclusive Popup Expedition to Singalila National Park to find this rare species.
